Apple
co-founder Steve Wozniak gave Kevin Mitnick a 1 Ghz Titanium
Powerbook as a "Welcome Back Kevin" gift on
the January
21st, 2003 TechTV show -"The Screen Savers". You can see
the article by
By Dave Roos on the TechTV website. He was there to "guide" Kevin
Mitnick, on his first ever use of the modern internet.
Kevin
Mitnick a semi regular on the ScreenSavers show and probably
the most notorious hacker of the 1990's, was on for his first
foray onto the "modern" internet. After
serving a five year prison term for his "crimes", then 3 years
Federal Probation which prohibted him from going online at
all, Mitnick is now a free man.
"I have never even sent an email..." Mitnick proclaimed, "While testifying
before congress in 2000, I chatted with Senator Joe Lieberman, I asked him if
I could get a full pardon, should he become president. And look, he is running
for president now, maybe it'll happen!".
He has not been allowed online access with any computer since his conviction
in 1995 for hacking into the phone system and companies such as Motorola and
Sun Microsystems. Most of his mischeif was done through a VMS mainframe that
somehow could burrow into secured networks of these big companies.
TechTV takes
live phone calls and a kid called up and asked Kevin, "How did you get
started hacking?" He
replied, "Very carefully", and quickly added, "Kids,
don't do this at home".
